Who We Are

The IFC’s mission is to promote the technology of fire and smoke containment in building construction through research, education, development of safety standards, testing, and code provision.

About Us

The International Firestop Council (IFC) is a nonprofit association of manufacturers, distributors, installers, inspectors and other key stakeholders interested in passive fire protection materials and systems in North America and abroad.

With over thirty years members’ experience, a constant stream of innovation and over ten thousand tested systems, we are THE source of firestop expertise.

What We Do

The IFC provides impartial and broad-based education, information, resources, affiliation, and procedures regarding firestop system selection, performance, installation and inspection to the construction and code-enforcement communities.

In a temporary departure from passive fire protection, Mr. Mattox designed and constructed a 3600 sq. ft. state-of-the-art air and water leakage testing laboratory which was used collaboratively with Oak Ridge National Laboratories and the Air Barrier Association of America. It was during this time he worked with UL to establish Exterior Wall Components (FWFX) and Systems (FWFO) Categories, which marries air and water performance with flame spread resistance for exterior walls. Mr. Mattox has been active in leadership roles for several trade associations, holding officer positions with the Air Barrier Association of America as well as the International Firestop Council where he currently serves as Treasurer.
